Education and continuing study

Wei earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences. He also completed master’s-level Chinese medicine training at the New York College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and practices as a licensed acupuncturist.

He is also pursuing a Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at the American Academy of Health and Wellness. Those studies are in progress; his Doctor of Physical Therapy is already completed.

His education spans rehabilitation and Chinese medicine. Patients can discuss their goals and arrange a physical therapy, acupuncture or Medical Pilates appointment through the Great Neck office.

Clinical interests

Wei’s rehabilitation interests include sports injuries, recovery after surgery, orthopedic concerns, balance and fall prevention. His background also includes working with older adults and supporting mobility and independence.

As an acupuncturist, he also sees patients with pain-related and musculoskeletal concerns. Patients can discuss whether they are looking for physical therapy, acupuncture or an individual movement appointment.

Experience across rehabilitation settings

His clinical experience includes inpatient acute care, post-operative rehabilitation and outpatient orthopedics. These settings involve different stages of care, from the period around a hospital stay to working on movement and function in an outpatient setting.

That range of experience helps explain his interest in the course of recovery as well as the immediate concern. For a person returning after surgery or an injury, relevant medical history and existing activity restrictions are important parts of the discussion.

Wei’s approach emphasizes patient education and injury prevention. He is interested in helping patients understand their movement goals and how those goals relate to the activities they want to resume.

Tai Chi and mindful movement

Wei studied Yang-style Tai Chi with Huifang Qiu. His interest in mindful movement, posture and functional training forms another part of his approach to rehabilitation.

He also provides Medical Pilates. Patients interested in movement work can discuss goals such as body awareness, balance or returning to activities, and ask which appointment is appropriate for their situation.

Wei speaks English, Mandarin Chinese and Korean. Sharing your preferred language can help make explanations of symptoms, exercises and goals easier to follow.
